'thinning' refers to the phrase 'thinning of the veil.' The installation consists of a mirror-like object in front of a veil. Mirrors are often synonymous with portals, and the mirror here acts as a way through to the veil. The veil is constructed via a process of weaving yarn into squares, then coating the woven yarn with many layers of with ceramic slip. The squares are fired in the kiln and the yarn burns out completely, leaving a fragile shell of clay surrounding the negative space. where the weaving once was The veil is intentionally fragile and flimsy, alluding to the fact that there is a great amount of porousness between the material and non-material world.
