'melon to melon' was inspired by the idea that humans and water mammals are true brethren who are separated only by the physical challenges of each other's environments. Inside of each bust is a piece of electroformed copper. In the human bust, the copper takes the shape of our intuitive center: the pineal gland. In the dolphin bust, the copper is formed to resemble their tool for echolocation: the melon. The idea is that through the use of these two cognitive pieces of anatomy, we could communicate with each other in our own shared language.
